episode guide [episodes 1-10]

this is the section for those of you who don't know what pokemon are or want to know more about those things. there's info explaining what pokemon are, and below that is info on the actual cartoon (such as its plot, characters and an episode guide).

1. pokemon, i choose you!
ash starts his pokemon journey. although he is supposed to choose his first pokemon (bulbasaur, charmander, or squirtle) he wakes up late and instead receives pikachu from professor oak. pikachu is very stubborn and refuses to listen to ash. they soon find themselves being chased by a group of spearows, endangering pikachu.

2. pokemon emergency!
the attack by the angry spearows forces ash to rush to the viridian city pokemon centre. pikachu, who received a severe beating, is transported there to recover. misty follows ash since he broke her bike. team rocket makes their debut at the pokemon centre in an attempt to steal pokemon.

3. ash catches a pokemon
now with pikachu's respect, ash can finally start catching pokemon. ironically, the first one he catches didn't even involve a battle. he captures a caterpie who for some reason likes misty (the bug hater). with the aide of a pigeotto that he also caught, ash must defeat team rocket to protect pikachu.

4. challange of the samurai
in the viridian forest, ash, misty, and pikachu battles a samurai, metapod vs. metapod. a group of beedrill chase them and ash is forced to leave without his metapod. after the beedrill stop chasing them, ash wanders around and find his metapod within a group of kakuna. after an emotional conversation (in which metapod cries), the kakuna evolve into beedrill and attack ash. metapod leaps (somehow) into a beedrill to protect ash, and cut its hard shell in the process. it evolves into butterfree and beats the beedrill and team rocket.

5. showdown in pewter city
arriving in pewter city, ash has his first gym battle against brock, the rock pokemon master. outmatched, ash has no choice but to give up. a man named flint, whom ash met when he entered the town, volunteers to help pikachu's electricity become more powerful. after pumping electricity into pikachu, ash goes back to pewter gym and has a rematch against brock. he forfeits a match that he could have won, but brock catches up with ash later and awards him a boulder badge. and guess what? flint ends up being brock's dad (and he looks exactly like him too). brock joins ash on his journey to become the world's greatest pokemon breeder.

6. clefairy and the moon stone
to get to cerulean city, ash and co. must go through mt. moon. they meet a scientist named seymour who tells them of his theory of the moon stone and pokemon (that they landed from outer space). team rocket, always up to no good, tries to steal moon stones. soon clefairies flood the mountain, but what is the connection between the moon stone and clefairy?

7. the water flowers of cerulean city
ash, misty, brock, and pikachu reach cerulean city, the home of the cerulean gym. but, what's this? the gym leaders are none other then misty's 3 sensational sisters (whom i forgot their names). unfortunately, they suck and never train so misty takes ash's challenge.

8. the path to the pokemon league
the crew crosses a pokemon gym which they are unfamiliar with: a.j.'s gym. this gym, which isn't an actually pokemon league gym, is where a pokemon trainer named a.j. trains his many pokemon under harsh conditions. a.j. is one win away from his 100th straight win (he's never lost a match). ash confidentally challenges him, but is ash really as good as he thinks?

9. the school of hard knocks
while looking around, ash spots some kids bullying a smaller kid. all of them are students of pokemon technical, a school that will allow you into the pokemon league upon graduation. these kids (except the smaller one) have a really bad attitude problem, but it is nothing in comparison to pokemon tech's top student, the "stunning" jezelle. ash challenges jezelle do a battle.

10. bulbasaur and the hidden village
in the forest, ash and crew discover a little pokemon hospital. melanie, the girl who treats pokemon who have been hurt in the forest, has the place protected by a loyal bulbasaur. she realizes that her place is too safe, thanks to bulbasaur, and offers to give it to ash. the only request of bulbasaur's is that ash must beat bulbasaur in a pokemon match before taking him.
